AFIN IFN SA Secures €250,000 Funding from ImpaktEU to Support Romania’s Social Economy
Bucharest, 29 May 2025 — AFIN IFN SA, the first non-banking financial institution in Romania dedicated exclusively to the social economy sector, announces the signing of a new financing agreement worth 250,000 EUR with the Belgian social investment fund ImpaktEU. This investment marks an important step in strengthening AFIN’s capacity to support the development of social and environmental impact organizations in Romania.

The funds obtained from ImpaktEU will be directed toward expanding AFIN’s loan portfolio, specifically targeting social enterprises, NGOs, and other economic operators with a social or environmental mission. These resources will support:

access to working capital for day-to-day operations,

investment in equipment and infrastructure,

organizational and professional capacity building for beneficiaries.
Through these interventions, AFIN directly contributes to the creation of new jobs, the development of community-impact products and services, and the strengthening of the financial sustainability of the social economy sector in Romania.

A European collaboration for sustainable impact
ImpakEU, an impact investment fund launched in 2022 by Funds for Good and Inpulse Investment Manager, supports initiatives that promote social inclusion, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development across Europe. The investment in AFIN is part of the fund’s strategy to strengthen financial ecosystems that support the social economy.

Operational since 2023, AFIN IFN SA is a fully Romanian-owned financial institution that offers loan products exclusively tailored to the social economy sector. Since its establishment, AFIN has granted over 60 loans, totaling more than 1.2 million euros in financing dedicated to social enterprises.
AFIN operates under a one-stop-shop model for social economy operators, in partnership with ADV Romania and the Social Finance Association. The institution is certified as a social enterprise, reinvesting over 90% of its profits for social purposes, and is a member of the international microfinance network MFC (Microfinance Centre).
